Why in the world should I join a church?

Posted by Mike Willis on Tuesday, January 12, 2010.
Joining a church isn’t a trendy thing.  If it is trendy … it’s likely for the wrong reasons.

Here’s why you should join a church – mutual ministry.

The church is God’s vessel through which He proclaims Himself to the world.

In order to do this well, Christians need to be sharpened by one another, they need to serve one another, they need to minister to one another, etc, etc, etc.

There are at least 33 of these “one another’s” in the New Testament.

Then there are verses like Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider how to stir up one another to good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day [of Christ’s return] drawing near.”

Doing the twice-a-year attendance thing is lame-o – reread above verse.

Yeah, there was church membership in the New Testament … this is how there could be local pastors in the New Testament (Timothy and Titus) and letters written to specific churches in the New Testament (Revelation 2-3).

Church membership is not for convenient associations that better your business credibility.

Church membership is for the glory of God through your worship, fellowship, growth and ministry with other Christians.

It’s time to make Harvest your Home!
