One Amazing Weekend!

Posted by Mike Willis on Saturday, December 20, 2008.
Last weekend, James MacDonald introduced me and the other three Harvest church planters to the entire congregation at Harvest (live and via satellite feed).  About 13,000 people now know of our church plant in Raleigh!  I had several delightful conversations with people after the service!  One couple was visiting family in Chicagoland for the weekend and they live in Wakefield!  Another young lady is moving to Raleigh to attend Meredith college and had prayed the day before that God would plant a Harvest Bible Chapel in Raleigh because she was distraught about leaving the church that has discipled her in the Lord.  Her ears perked up when she heard James say, "Let me introduce you to this year's church planters and tell you where they are planting."  I was standing closest to James, so he introduced the other three pastors first: "Ryan planting in Chicago's southwest suburbs, Jason planting in Miami, Jacob planting in southern Ontario."  With each introduction, her hope of a Harvest in Raleigh dropped by 25%.  What is the likeliness the last pastor would be planting in one of thousands of potential cities?  "And this is Mike Willis.  He just had a baby this week!  He and his wife, Vanessa, will be planting a Harvest Bible Chapel in Raleigh, NC!"  She started weeping!  We had a great conversation after the service.  It was so edifying to both of us!

Harvest was kind to place biographical information about each of us on the main harvest website.  On the main page, look in the right column of information, mid-page, and you will see "Harvest Bible Fellowship Training Center for Church Planting, Class of 2009".  Click on that and you can read the bios of the other three pastors as well.

Thanks so much to David McWilliams, Amanda Meares (graphic designer), and Katie McWilliams for their hard work on our website!  If you are not aware, our website is AWESOME!  God has really blessed our core group with some talented people who are not looking to prove themselves, but to work unto the Lord for His glory.  "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men." (Colossians 3:23).   When David found out that Harvest was posting my bio on their main site and therefore an announcement of us planting in Raleigh, let's just say he put in a long day at his "day job" and his "Kingdom job" to launch this GREAT website which was going to be launched January 1st!

In the next months and years, each of you will have endless opportunity to serve in specific and vital ways and I know you are chomping and the bit to serve now!  This is great!  There are two things to which all of us are working now: 1) THE WORK OF PRAYER; 2) THE WORK OF RECRUITING.  These tasks are how we are to be spending ourselves until launch.  More to come on these in a few days!

I hope all is well with each of you!  Maddie is doing well and so is Vanessa.  Mom leaves tomorrow after helping us so much this past week as we adjust to being first-time parents.  Vanessa's parents are here and Aaron, Vanessa's brother, arrives from Tampa tomorrow around the time when we drop off mom at O-Hare.  Please pray for their safe travel as the temperature tomorrow will be below zero!  What?!

Love you,

mike

Some of our college students from Dallas, in typical college student spontaneity, drove through the night to Chicago to see us (really to see Maddie!), and visit some other friends in the area.  How cool!  That was an amazing night!  It was GREAT to see these fellas!
