Harvest, you are amazing people

Posted by Mike Willis on Wednesday, September 29, 2010.
Harvest, you are amazing people.   You love Jesus, love one another, and love strangers.  Jesus is honored.

I remember when I was in Dallas, a seminary student, leading the college ministry at my church, and having the frequent privilege of sitting in my pastor's office to talk ministry.  We would celebrate many things and he would answer my never-ending stream of questions and I would usually pull a prank on him (or his office) before leaving, for good measure.  Once, I nestled a ridiculously ugly 8x10 picture of myself amidst his family pictures.  He didn't notice for several days and his Administrative Assistant told me that he humorously exclaimed, "Williiiiiis!" when he saw it.  I was conveniently not at the church.  Then that picture ended up being featured in other offices until it became a white elephant gift at the staff Christmas party.  Good times.

My pastor ingrained in me the simple Christian life: love Jesus, love people, and have fun.  He told me his wife's constant encouragement to him, when leaving in the morning, is, "Don't forget to have fun today, Matthew."

Serving the Lord is an honor.  Serving the Lord with you is an extreme honor.

There is already a long list of powerful moments, a long list of loving moments, and a long list of hilarious moments!

While serving ice-cream along with the Leader Team this past Sunday to all of our great volunteers, I was having some fun being generous with Reddi-Whip and, on occasion, accidentally extending the pile up people's arms.  After the equpping time that followed the ice-cream, I got reddi-whipped myself ... my head, shirt, pants, etc.  If I was cool enough, I'd post the video here.  It's somewhere on facebook.  (CJ and Carol: I am an experienced prankster ... watch your backs).

In the last year, we have pressed forward in our faith.  We have grown as Christian people who love Christ and others.  And we certainly know how to have a lot of fun together.

"They will know you are my disciples by your love for one another."  John 13:35
