First of all, these logos are incredible! Thanks Katie McWilliams!
When I was at NC State as a Communication major, my Rhetoric Professor had us take a survey after which we'd know if we were masculine, feminine, or androgynous (a blend of both). Nearly all the men in the class were androgynous. So were nearly all of the women. Why have we moved so much to the center? Is this healthy? Are we afraid to be different? What if God had made us different for an amazingly complementary purpose? Why did I just write so many questions!
God has a lot to say about manhood and womanhood. I think you'd agree that so does everyone else. Words like love, lead, honor, respect, submit, treat, and live each carry significant meaning in Scripture and in our culture. Some of these words incite fear and disgust. Some of these words can mean something different to every person in a hypothetical "to each his own" dictionary. Here's the deal: God uses these words to bring and establish health. And we want to bring and establish health to men's and women's lives. God's Word is our good.
Men need to hang-out together. Women need to hang-out together. Within hang-outs, there is a source of truth that guides groups. Harvest Men will not be a gathering of grunting men who wake up at 3:30am to go hunting together. Harvest Women will not be a gathering of women to establish the best looking table centerpieces at any women's event in Raleigh. I used these overstated stereotypes to clarify the purpose of these ministries: to define and determine together to follow Christ as Christian men and women and to encourage one another to stay the course.
On Saturday, October 30th:
Harvest Men will meet from 8:30 to 11am.
Harvest Women will meet from 1-3:30pm.
Us men look forward to serving you women by helping set-up for your event and clearing up our smelly (cause we're men) mess.
What to expect:
Defining and deciding to follow Christ as Christian men and women.
Fellowship and games, Bible application, prayer, food, videos, etc.
We've been waiting, quite intentionally, to launch these ministries until the time was right and the leaders are in place. We're not trying to make ministries, we're making disciples of Jesus. Be ready to grow stronger and to strengthen others.
